A legendary notebook

The Moleskine® notebook is the heir and successor to the legendary notebook used by artists and thinkers over the past two centuries: among them Vincent van Gogh, Pablo Picasso, Ernest Hemingway, and Bruce Chatwin. A simple black rectangle with rounded corners, an elastic page-holder, and an internal expandable pocket: a nameless object with a spare perfection all its own, produced for over a century by a small French bookbinder that supplied the stationery shops of Paris, where the artistic and literary avant-garde of the world browsed and bought them. A trusted and handy travel companion, the notebook held invaluable sketches, notes, stories, and ideas that would one day become famous paintings or the pages of beloved books. The notebook was Bruce Chatwin's favorite, and it was he who called it "moleskine". In the mid-1980s, these notebooks became increasingly scarce, and then vanished entirely. Anna B. Geiger

Anna Bela Geiger é artista plástica. Reside no Rio de Janeiro. Biografia Anna Bella Geiger (Rio de Janeiro RJ 1933). Escultora, pintora, gravadora, desenhista, artista intermídia e professora. Com formação em língua e literatura anglo-germânicas, inicia, na década de 1950, seus estudos artísticos no ateliê de Fayga Ostrower (1920 - 2001). Em 1954, vive em Nova York, onde freqüenta as aulas de história da arte com Hannah Levy no The Metropolitan Museum of Art - MET [Museu Metropolitano de Arte] e, como ouvinte, cursos na New York University. Retorna ao Brasil no ano seguinte. Entre 1960 e 1965, participa do ateliê de gravura em metal do Museu de Arte Moderna do Rio de Janeiro - MAM/RJ, onde passa a lecionar três anos mais tarde. Em 1969, novamente em Nova York, ministra aulas na Columbia University. Volta ao Rio de Janeiro em 1970. Em 1982, recebe bolsa da John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation, em Nova York.
